Thought I would share my build from another forum, forgive me if it doesn't make sense these are from posts over a long period of time.
This is my '82 JZ when I first got it.
And then I threw some money at it and got this
I rode it every day to uni and work and hasn't let me down
Then I got some packages
And some more
Got a mate to extend my swingarm for me.
He made a jig to keep it all in place. You can see the donor swingarm in the background. We did it in 2 pieces to try and keep the same width at the rear.
He was a bit worried about not getting enough weld around the joins, so did this.
And the finished product, with re-located chain guard mount.
Then there was some more progress. Exams were coming up so therefore it was the perfect time to procrastinate, what better way to procrastinate then build a Z50. I ran out of time and money to paint the frame but painted a few other bits and pieces. I put my chrome bits in oxalic acid and I'm very impressed. Started out with the swingarm, wiring loom and other bits and pieces.
Then fork uppers, bars, new switches, levers and throttle. New tapered steering stem bearings went in too.
Tried on some +1 fork legs and stiffer springs from my CRF50
But there was an interference issue with the speedo drive and fork leg
Working on the bike in the lounge room is OK (she doesn't know about the engine parts in the dishwasher though )
Needed the bike back on the road asap as its my primary form of transport, so put the 3 speed auto 50cc CRF50 engine in it for now.
Because the CRF loom is so simple I put everything in the battery box and kept the 6V loom and associated bits in there. No lights at this point, but that's okay ill only be riding during the day time.
I can tell you that riding it with 50cc again is a challenge, you forget how slow they really are. I'm thinking about just building up this 12V engine and putting the 6V into the CRF. I've got a fair bit of work coming up over this holidays so will just depend on how much I can save.. This exhaust is an amazing piece of artwork. The sound it gives even for a 50cc engine is nice too.
Okay a bit of an update.
I got a Kitaco 124SE kit (with Takegawa crank) of another forum member, along with a few other goodies too.
A billet housing to withstand the rpm of the infamous 54 X 54 combo.
A 5 speed gearbox to keep the bike singing.
Clutch mounted.
Takegawa outer rotor, to plug straight into my new CF Posh harness. Check out the size difference.
It's a tight squeeze with the stock fork legs
And ready to go
