Got my bike yesterday .Started it went for first ride and felt like it had no top end or mid power I was ok some things not right. thought it would have more grunt I took it back to the house jumped off. looked at the carby and noticed the switch was down so I pulled it up kicked it and off I went lol. dam choke

I cut about 12.5 cm off my muffler went to put the end back on and didn't need to pop rivet it back on just put it between the out shell and steel barrel in side took about 15 mins to put in carefuly but yeah in tight as a nun.

ill order my new carby and cdi on Wednesday cant wait :)

My Rear sprocket broke three of the bolts , the 4th one held on and took a peace of the rim with it so now iam after a new rear rim. I rang atomic yesterday he said he would get back to me but sounds like he has to order one from china if they have any available still. I asked if the rear rim was the same as the 2011 model cause on they website says they have them in stock. But they aren't if only it wear that simple :p

that's crazy 140 dam fast no way mine would go that high what has he done to it ?

I bought my self a new wheel of a friend its a ktm tyre so yeah for any one else out there looking for a spare rim a ktm fits with original axel well rear rim any way.

bought my self a High Performance Racing 6 PIN CDI Unit FOR 150 250cc ATV Quad PIT Dirt Bike | eBay
Put it on and now the bike is running really doggy, really hard to Start, wont idle and back fires when ever I gear down. dose the cdi sound broken or do I have to tune the carby for the new cdi box ?

some of those 'Performace CDI's' can be a bit hit and miss.
some alter the timing too, sounds like that one you have is doing ?

but try giving the carby a tune, you might be lucky
or you may need to rejet it to suit

i would just unplug it and throw it away to be honest.

i put one on my atomik 125. there was a noticeable difference at first, then after 4 rides it just died, i was actually out in the paddock at the time, had to push it home.

not fun..

Yeah they're Chinese electronics....I dont think they've quite cracked the reliability of Japanese electronics, just yet. Has someone mentioned valve clearances yet?

The guy who sold it too me on ebay said it might be a dud and he is sending me a new one free of charge if I get the same problem ill try tuning the carby I got no different jets atm not even sure what carby it is it came stock ...... but if I cant get em too work ill throw em away and us the original cdi. and just buy a new oko 30mm carby :) would u guys recommend what size jets to get for a 30mm oko
ive read through the forum like 4 times now and no has said what size jets for the 30mm oko :)

Bike was running awesome before I changed cdi box and started first or second kick. now I have the new cdi box I kicked it for an hour then had to get my bro in law to push start me

so if it was running awesome, why would you change it to the new one ?

i would ask for a refund from that Ebay seller, as it is not suitable for your bike.
let him know your bike has had trouble starting it since fitting the new CDI, and that after only 2 days of days using it, won't even kick start now.

hopefully it hasn't damaged your Ignition Coil and Stator with the extra load it has put on your ignition system.

I put the old cdi back on and it started first kick. I bought a new one cause it was ment to increase performance. I also bought a new battery today and throttle cable as the original wouldent fit the 1/4 throttle I bought last week. I should get delivered tomorrow my new pro taper handle bars as I payed for them 2 weeks ago but the ebay seller is slow as **** to send stuff. ill put some pics up when I finished customizing and I get the new Sticker kit

Firstly and in his absence, Thank you Thump140. I be eternally gracious.

It all started with an Ebay auction for a bike. Looking at the pics of it, doing some research and finding this thread, I worked out it was a Mikilon D7, same as the 2008 Blitz. $500 later and sans a shock, I had my bike ready to be torn down.

This thread was read end to end, along with thumps OKO tuning thread and a few others. I had a long way to go. 6 months later, heres my beast.

I ended up with a shock from a 03 KLX400. I asked a lot of questions of wreckers on size and length of shocks for many different bikes, then I was talking to a suspension specialist in south Brissy. He said buy original cause they are rated, tuned, valved etc for that bike and its weight and the linkage rates. So my mission began to find similar/better shock than original. I hadnt taught myself to weld at that stage so Thumps RMX shock was out of the question....little did I know !

The KLX400 (drz400...same bike) weighed the same and from all images I could determine the linkages were almost exact. Pricing was insane locally, upward of $350 for a rough second hand one. I checked the US and picked up an almost new shock for $56 plus $100 shipping. Bargain, and it was a very nice shock. Fitting was to be a challenge though, I needed to grind a bit of the cross member for the larger0taller and longer reservoir and also fillet some of the frame out and re weld it (I had to learn eventually). With all that done and a few washers and adapters made up for different bolt holes and to tidy the loose rear suspension linkages it was time to rebuild.

The Exhaust had to be bent around a bit to clear the shock reservoir but not too much.

So mods so far are:
KLX400 (03) shock
Cassoli CDI and coil pack
Bark busters (or rip offs)
150mm off the muffler and baffle removed
Sticker packs and graphics
Clear 6mm fuel line levelled out (since the photo was taken)
Replaced all nuts bolts screws with stainless and Nylocs or 12.9 tensile for frame and structural areas
Re greased everything during the rebuild.

Ive tuned the standard 26mm Mikuni, seems to be ok in the shed, steady idle and a breeze to start.

This weekend should be the maiden ride. I will post how the shock feels.

I'm aiming for the OKO 30 and YZF forks when I break the originals or my riding is good enough to need it.

Ive been riding road bikes for 25 years, this is my first crosser. The Speed triple has been a bit lonely in the garage next to this one lately.

Something else I have learnt, the forks from the 99 YZ400 are clearly marked on each leg at the base near the axle hole :
Left = Y5DH-L
Right = Y5DH-R

YZ400 forks.JPG

According to a few sources on the net they will fit : Will fit 1996-2003 Yamaha YZ125 YZ250 YZ250F YZ400F YZ426F YZ450F Models. But check the markings before you buy. Its your money not mine.

The later models come with YZ.... markings and according to earlier posts are not bolt in compatible.

Welcome to MiniRiders! :)
+reps to you man, you've made an absolute beast! from one chinese 250 rider to the next, respect :)

im am wondering, what is the length of the klx400 shock, and what linkage attachment it has? i am to looking for a rear shock, the stock ones arnt much to talk about!

i have the atomik fury, a kind of enduro bike, not really a motorcross type like your blitz. check out my review: http://www.miniriders.com/dirt-bike...13-atomik-fury-250cc-review-build-thread.html

i have an OKO 30mm sitting right here, i will most likely be putting it on this afternoon, it has 36 pilot and 100 main jets, i'll let you know how it runs, and what jets it will most likely need, if need be :)

cheers,
jack

Jack aka Blender,
Mate thanks for the cred, its been a labour of love this beast. But I only built it as a trail bike, it wont be used on MX tracks, thats not my thing.....yet.

The shock is 450mm long. The linkage is the standard one, no mods at all and the shock fits straight on. The only difference is the shock had 10mm bolt holes and the linkages use 12, so I had to cut a steel tube to fit in the lower linkage and make a couple of adapter tubes for each side of the upper link. I wasn't ready to drill out the shock holes yet as I wanted tpo be sure the whole set up worked well, if it didn't then I could sell it un hacked. Rest assured based on my maiden run yesterday, I wont be selling the shock, its magic.

The stock linkage on mine was on back to front. It could be that when the shop ratted it for parts and they took the original shock (I got my bike from a shop that was closing up and it had been ratted for plastics and shock), that they put it back on wrong, but just check to be sure. I compared mine with the CRF450 which is what it appears that the frame/swingarm were modelled off and the linkage is the same as mine now. So check it. The linkage 'triangle' with the 3 holes has the centre hole and the 2 ends. Each end is slightly different length from the centre and has a different width mount. The narrow end was attached to my swingarm allowing a lot of sideways movement, when spun around (now matching the CRF) it is a nice fit. In doing this the KLX shock also fits snug on the narrow end of the linkage. Win win.

Here's a close up of the linkage.

One thing I didnt mention was I also Boxed in the bottom of the swing arm. I saw a youtube of a guy on a blitz doing a jump and landing hard, it split the swingarm cross member at the lingage. So to strengthen it I welded 3mmplate and boxed it in. Another pic..

Ive also got two pics of the frame fillet and the cross member where I ground a big notch from the cross member to fit the reservoir in, and took out material from the inside of the frame and welded 3mm plate back in.

As for the first ride shake down, it was brilliant. A little bit of carby inconsistency in idle and that flat spot in the middle suggests I would also have the 132 main jet like Thump stated at the start.

I will be very interested Jack in how the 30mm OKO goes, its looking like being a need now more than a want.

Thanks for the info, I have not been able to put the OKO on, it actually fouls on the stock shock, ha ha. I just have to wait for my inlet manifold to arrive, then I'll be able to bolt it up.

As for the shock, I appreciate the info, I'll be looking around at some bike wreckers and online, and I'll scope it out. It would be good to use the KLX/DRZ linkages too, I'm sure they'd be better quality that the stock Chinese ones. From the looks of it, those linkages are the exact same as mine, so it looks like an easy fit.

I'll let you know when I get the OKO bolted up. Stock carbs are an extreme restriction, cant wait to feel the difference!

Jack, sorry if I confused you, the linkages are the standard Chinese ones that came with the bike. Not the KLX ones. They are plenty strong, if anything I was looking at the aftermarket light weight alloy ones. But I would be looking at CRF linkages to match the dimensions/ratio of the link to swingarm pivot etc.

Oh, ok. Tyhats no problem, if anything it'll make getting the shock cheaper!
