is it necessary to buy air filter oil to re-oil the filter after washing? i have read people using just vegetable oil.. how safe is this?
would 10w40 engine oil be okay ?

okay cheers, a guy on here reckons he has been using vegetable oil for 30 years, with no problems.. how could this be true?

Because he will be some clueless schmuck that thinks he knows better !! Buy the right product and use it correctly. There is a reason they are on the market, regardless of what the conspiracy theorists will try and tell you. Clean air and good fuel is key to engine reliability. If you don't like cleaning filters as often, pre-filters can also be a good idea !!
