As I Have bikes with most of the the gear you guys are talking about I can safely say that you get what you pay for.
The Chinese front end I was running gave very poor road feel and the 220mm disc brake was either off or on - with no feel in the middle, but they are cheap, and so very appealing. And as Gav said it really comes back to the look you are after - the stock forks with all the Fast 50's gear are way better than stock and if you fit an external Damper, are just as adjustable as the flasher Japanese front ends.:blah:

what setup did you run the the z50a custom you built adam,

what hubs are you using,
can i ask why you are using the j1 plates

The Hubs are J1 also ( look the same as Z50A to me but are most likely different - and before I get jumped on, I know they are different where the sprocket bolts on )
The Brake plates for a Z50A have a smaller diameter brake shoe actuating cam - so the Takegawa brake arms won't go onto a Z50A one - but J1 and JZ etc etc. the Takegawa arms will go onto with no drama
