Thought it might be a good and very helpful idea if we started making a sort of miniriders dictionary thing that has what something stands for and what it does. Because alot of people are asking things like what does IRK stand for and what does it do.

# IRK = Inner Rotor Kit (posted by topguntravis)

# Oil Slinger - An oil slinger is a centrifugal oil filter that is on the end of right hand side of the crank ... Oil comes from the pump and transfers to the slinger via a spring loaded transfer tube ... Once inside the slinger , any molecules that are heavier than the oil molecules get flung out to the outside walls where the centrifugal force holds them so that they can't possibly get pumped through to the conrod big end bearing then out onto the bore ... Slingers are the most effective method of protecting the crank and extending its life. (Cactus Jacks description ;) ) (posted by topguntravis)

# CDI = Capacitor Discharge Ignition - A CDI is a type of ignition system. A charging circuit charges a high voltage capacitor, and during the ignition point the system stops charging the capacitor, allowing the capacitor to discharge its output to the ignition coil before reaching the spark plug where it generates a spark. # Ergo = how the componontry of a bike comes together, brakes and suspension, frame and engine etc. (posted by foolsp33d)

# Berm = a banked corner in which momentum and speed are both kept. (posted by foolsp33d)

# 1/4 turn = Type of throttle, as the name implies, a 1/4 turn is all it takes to go from idle to WOT. (posted by foolsp33d)

# WOT = Wide Open Throttle (posted by foolsp33d)

# Rim Lock = prevents the tyre 'spinning on the rim' in the case of a tube failure. (posted by foolsp33d)

# Fold able Levers = Designed to fold back when in an accident to prevent snapping of the lever. (posted by foolsp33d)

# USD = commonly in reference to forks, Up Side Down, a newer design compared to the 'standard' fork of the late 70 and 80's. (posted by foolsp33d)

# Mono Shock = similar in translation to the above but for the rear end, connecting the swinger to the rear of the frame via a single unit to control bound/rebound. (posted by foolsp33d)

# Import/no name/China bike/cheap = does it need a description!!? (posted by foolsp33d)

asked last month was

Ergo-how the componontry of a bike comes together, brakes and suspension, frame and engine etc.

Berm- a banked corner in which momentum and speed are both kept.

1/4 turn-Type of throttle, as the name implies, a 1/4 turn is all it takes to go from idle to WOT.

WOT- Wide Open Throttle

Rim Lock- prevents the tyre 'spinning on the rim' in the case of a tube failure.

Foldable Levers, Designed to fold back when in an accident to prevent snapping of the lever.

USD- commonly in reference to forks, Up Side Down, a newer design compared to the 'standard' fork of the late 70 and 80's.

Mono Shock- similar in translation to the above but for the rear end, connectng the swinger to the rear of the frame via a single unit to control bound/rebound.

Import/no name/China bike/cheap- does it need a description!!?

Conventional forks: Single sleved forks , chrome sliders up the top rather than bottom. Fork moves up slider rather than usd moving down.

Zorst: Exhaust

Bet you push mongo too?
Sk8 - thats so lame , who spells skateboarding with an 8. Your a joke.

Quick edit:

Donk: engine
Mill : engine
Clickers: On-the-fly adjustable settings located :
- On top of each fork leg and at the base of the leg.
- On the shock cannister , top or bottom of shock
Various clickers - Compression ( How fast fork goes down) - preload / ring ( Static sag , return ride height) - Rebound ( speed of which suspension returns to original set preload) - High speed compression ( Compression adjustment made at high speed to prevent deflecting of square edges)

Steering damper: A hydraulic steering control to eliminate front end 'head shake' experienced at high speeds.

PDS: linkage system developed by WP (white power) suspension that involves an offset rear shock that operates on a PDS linkage directly connected to the swingarm rather than the use of hinge linkages - found on Ktm's and Husabergs.

Rake: Making the front end (Bars, forks, wheel) looked choppered. Either from crap desing of ergos or the headstem has bent or the frame near the headstem

Headstem: Where the bottom fork clamp bolt goes through the frame.

TDC: Top dead centre, when the piston is farthest away from the axis of the crankshaft. A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston from Top Dead Center (TDC) to Bottom Dead Center (BDC)

BDC: bottom dead centre, when the piston is closes to the axis of the crankshaft or fartherest away from the valves (TDC).

Can a mod edit this whole thread and keep ONLY the useful posts in here. Also make this a sticky please....

rake isnt making the front end LOOKED choppered. its refers to the motorcycle geometry of the head set (goose neck) angle and length of the forks or any other components that affects the geometry

Sorry your a smartarse

Oil = The numbers are the viscosity of the oil. The first number is its "cold" viscosity and the second number is its "hot" viscosity. Basically a range of the viscosity from cold temperatures to hot temperatures.

Viscosity is the oils resistance to flow. (Honey is a great example, when it's cold it flows slowly (more resistant) and when it's heated/hot it flows faster (less resistant).

The "W" is just saying it meets a low temperature requirement and for practical purposes perhaps better to use in winter, however this isn't really relevant to us.

Going to bump this thread. Topgun did a great job setting it up.

Feel free to add definitions of items. Any chit chat will be removed. This is a resource thread.

Also stickied. :)

I blieve there to be an error.

ergo's: (ergonomics) how the riders controls, seat, frame shape and footpeg positioning feel to the rider. how comfortable the bike is to ride.
