Hey guys,

Having a problem installing my TB 88 kit in my CRF50 04.

Trying to get the cam chain on but it won't stretch far enough to get it over the cog. How do I get the extra slack to get it over the timing cog? I have loosened the cam chain tensioner but still not enough.

Do I need a new timing chain or am I missing something? Can get photo's later if it helps.

what i usually do is undo the cam chain tensioner untill it comes out then nip it up just enough to hold it in , then i put the cam chain on the sprocket before bolting it to the cam(may take few shots to get the timing to line up unless ya mark the chain and sprocket before disassembly) then it should just pop over the dowel pin in the centre on the cam .

That's exactly what I have done. Still not enough slack. I have the chain over the cog, just can't pull it back enough to get the bolts in.

What do you mean by the tensioners near the oil plug? Didn't know there was one. I have been undoing the one the barrel or is that something different?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. First time rebuilding a mini bike.

nah the cam chain tensioner is under the cases next to the drain plug on the ignition side of the engine, undo that one and it will give you some slack in the cam chain, once the cam chain and sprocket is on make sure you tighten the cam tensioner back up . the bolt on the side of the cylinder is just a bolt that holds the cam chain roller in the cylinder.

aye, undo the tensioner bolt(under the gear shift, at an angle, 14mm usually) and only remove the spring, then put the bolt back loose...dont forget to put the spring back afterwards. if you remove the piston above the spring, it has a recess to take the spring, obviously that end points down....

for getting the cam sprocket back on in line real quick, i always put the crank at tdc, then pull the chain out, find the link thats as far opposite from the crank as possible, and insert sprocket with dot lining up with this link. then replace head, and yeah, slip sprocket with chain back over cam shaft:) always ends up lining up this way:)
