Thats massive woggy Xray realy shows that.. Shock horror

When had my left coller bone broken was short kinda same, limits you so much in movement
I got told same story over n over that northing they can do & have to let it heal :( ,
I begged and argued with local doctor to give me referal to see specialist!
10weeks later got to see specialist! he was shock'd to see they had left it. Ended up pinning it! made massive differance. As stop'd the bones from moving around while being held in right spot.

My advice to all, if not in private heath fund! Go join fund. I pay like $90 a mouth n covers everything bar hipp replacement!
Need to be as times of injury when lay'd up waiting n waiting sucks so bad, Or mite'nt get done if not in fund.

Your right shearer , it's a good idea if you can spare a few bucks a year to get some decent private health cover there are lots of options for varying ages n also make sure u all got your ambulance cover payed up, if u can afford to buy n maintain bikes u can afford to cover your backside, if u ever need it it's there otherwise u could end up not only injured but in debt for a very long time .

So just a update on my sitch , getn better each day , seen the doc today n everything lookn good so far here's some happy snaps of before n after

Dunno if I have permanent nerve damage as I'm still but numb just gotta see how that goes but they reckon I should be totally pain free in bout four weeks or so, Feeln pretty good last couple days can't wait to get back on the bike

Cheers for the xray shots roy, good to hear ya healn good mate. How long does the plate stay in there for, or is it a permanent thing?

Hey guys just wanted to say this is a great thread and I'll be using it over the next few months as you may already know I broke my right collarbone on the weekend racing in the vcm series. Currently in alot of pain in a sling chilling at home. Had x rays and scans so thankfully I was lucky to only have a broken bone.

I'll try and detail what I can so fellow riders can learn from my experience. A bit about my background- no private cover, no income protection(I sub contract as a chippy) and never had a serious injury before.

I'll post up my x ray soon but just letting you know it's a very annoying injury more than anything as my break didn't displace enough so no plate required I can't move my arm for 4 weeks to allow healing.

Thanks for the help Sunday as well good to have the type of blokes who try to look after each other even though we all race against each other.

I'll keep you posted!

Your a champ Corey, glad you ok n on the mend, from the looks of your xray you look pretty straight still so should heal real good, just be a pain for a couple weeks, you will be right bud.
Hope you dont loose to much work n get through it all trouble free!!

n sorry Mick, must have missed ya post, the plate i got can stay in but is bloody weird n annoying n restricts my movement a bit so ill prob get it out in the future

x-ray shows break where the cursor is. i think i was lucky considering other types of breaks ive seen.

Looks like it should come together pretty close to normal so hopefully not to much of a problem in future, how u finding the first few days? Just thought id mention i got warned by a couple guys through this thread that although the pain killers might help a lot it can be very easy to become dependant on them n it has taken me personally a bit of will power to not take anything anymore, although i dont actually really need them anymore i had become very used to falling alseep with it in my system even after only a few weeks and found it difficult to sleep without it. U obviously need to manage your pain accordingly but i can see how people get hooked on those things

Good news your fealing better after having bone pinnd Roy

Yeah feeling ok thanks Roy. Woke up in massive pain first few nights but yeah I can see how the meds can get addictive. I never really take pain killers and I'm only taking them if I reallly need them. Coping with the pain is probably a better option. The endones are very strong so being careful with them. Thanks for the advice thou keeping an eye on it. I already am hanging to ride again! Can't even fix my bike yet!!!

Yeah no worries mate, just thought id mention it. im glad you coping alright n i a good state of mind, how are you managing with not being able to run your business? N glad to hear your keen to ride again soon neither can i :)
Sux not being able to do much tho ay lol it took me almost a hour to wash my bike after chris raced it hehe

Yeah no work for a while sucks but missus is making some good coin at the moment so takes a bit of the pressure off. Did some quotes see how I go. Just get a labourer to do it for me. Won't even see my bike for 2 weeks haha stored at nicks place. All good thou. Cheers

Went to the fracture clinic today to get another X-ray.

photo-4.jpg

Fracture has moved a bit but is still going to heal well.
Still have 2 weeks left in a sling
Then 3 weeks of no loading and small amounts of movement
Then 10weeks onwards I can do light lifting up to 5kgs

Not as bad as I thought. Doc said because it is a central break they never interfere and I'll be back too 100% after 12 weeks.

Duuuude, looks way worse than mine did, wonder why they plated me? Guess coz it was right near the end near my shoulder? So looks like you gonna be off the bike for a while too then, well we can be one armed photo taking bandits for a while hehe.

How the hell did your bone move that much by the way, u must have been doing something u shouldnt have lol n u were a bit concerned when i told you u might find it difficult with the mrs for a week or so. ?......... Haha

So have u been given any information regarding rehab or physio plans or anything? I got my next xrays in twoo weeks or somthn n then hopefully get out of the sling n into some sort of treatment to get my arm workn again

Hope your all good bro, u should come on saturday to watch harry n the guys at vermont if its on

^^ive been told they only plate if it is at both ends. My mums a physio she's done some research at the Alfred where she works and they all confirm it so its reassuring. If its broken on the middle it will heal really well and 99% of the time you get it back to te same strength.

I'm not sure why it looks worse. I did feel it poking out like this from the start I think it is only because they did an X-ray from a crazy angle looking up at me. I will have a lump across my bone but that's all the evidence I will have.

So Roy that's why you got plated as it is at the end which if it wasn't would restrict movement. This is how I interpreted it. Are you driving Roy? Was told I can't....

They think I can be out of the sling in 2 more weeks. Sounds crazy but I'll see how I go. I stopped using pain medication on Saturday, so goog pretty well.

I'll be there sat.

Fair nuff , two weeks?? Does sound bit quick but glad you on the mend , would be keen to hear what physio n treatment you go with.
N yeah I still driving , did like three days after my opp lol but I right handed n driving a auto so I manage ok n I asked my cop neighbor n he said I was aloud to drive ...

Sweet if the weathers good n it's on I'll c ya there, what time u gonna head down?

O n yeah timeeh hopefully before then :)

Cool man. Yeah my mums a physio so she's gonna give some exercises to do. I'll let you know what happens. Weather Looks to be good. You back at work yet?

Mummy will kiss it better for ya!! ;)

Nah that's awesome. Physio can be a bit if a rip off. It's mainly movement you get back which is real important in the early days.

I was thinking it won't take long for your muscles to get back to normal, didn't really think of the bone itself. Guess its something your going to have to watch forever.

Just take it step by step. As long as your good by summer so we can get stuck into your track again will be sweet. :)
