Hope Micko n Karlos are on the mend!!
Question for you guys ... Can u recommend good knee braces or pads , think I'm better off with braces as my right knee is totally screwed n has been since my early teens , left knee is getting smashed now too and I'm looking for something comfy to ride in but most important to give me stability n hopefully stop me from doing any major damage , will a knee brace fully protect the knee ? And /or will it cause me to brake something else instead? Like how a neck brace will save the neck but transfer impact to collarbone / shoulder ?? Any advise would be appreciated

Mate blowing out my knees was the reason I stopped racing minis bout 6-7 years ago. Knee braces will definitely help protect your knees. I use Asterix Cell. I've heard the new ones don't stay put the way my old ones do. They fall down when you walk or some ****. Check out pods. They are pretty good. Just go try some on and see what suits. Although my cells are sooo adjustable and have been set for my knee shape exactly. I can even set them to open only to the point my legs will. (Stops hyperextention) and remember. Don't be a cheap ****, you get what you pay for. And a busted knee will cost you a lot more.

Hey bud, can u post a pic of the good/ older style pods ? Looking into it soon n want to get good ones

Mick , what's going on mate?
From memory for me there was a period in my early recovery that it felt as tho I was getting worse not better but you will get through just take your physio really slow n with work .. Stop being a hero !! Just give it a bit more time mate otherwise you will make your recovery longer and you will have more issues later on in life , I hope they aren't pushing you to hard at physio just yet , you should only really be doing range of movement stuff at the moment not lifting or weights yet , what sort of regime do they have you on ? And what are your specialists saying ? Hope your just going through the worst of it n start getting some results soon mate

I'll try find a pic but basically the old ones have a lace up web on the back and the new ones have a couple Velcro straps. When I got mine they were $600 per knee. I got em down to a $1000 for the pair. I hope they are cheaper these days for ya

Went for my second 6 month review for my shoulder today and a year on from my stack im still busted :(

Yeah not the greatest news today basically got two options leave the plate and screws in and live with it or go through a long process of surgery
First to remove the plate, and do a good clean up to realign the bone again, Then with a bone graft from my hip patch it up and install a Hook Plate to stabilise and pull the arm up.
Three months later Ill have get that out which because I didn***8217;t just break the collarbone but I did my ac as well once the hook plate comes out chances are the shoulder would drop again because the ligaments in the ac stabilise the shoulder as well not just the bone..
So next they would take me through a third surgery where they would take some ligaments out of the back of my legs and with micro surgery build up my ac .......
Looks like I***8217;m keeping my bling

Ouch! Yeah i agree Tim , wait till the end of the season to make any decisions if worse comes to worse you can be my leading man in my Pit Crew next season hhaha

Yeah I'm not guys I'm screwed either way I'd rather just leave the plate in n hope for the best I can't afford any time off work from now on as I'm buying my bosses workshop :) so I'll be screwed if I have to be off the tools or going through prolonged surgery n recovery and I probably wouldn't be too much more better off after all that surgery, one thing that kinda hit home yesty tho was the fact that I'm still broken , the doc says even though iv been riding which is why I thought it hadn't healed he says it's mostly due to smoking .. The nicotine kills the cells trying to grow my bones back together he said I should have healed about 6 months ago It's a bit of a eye opener , all this is really n now I'm even more mindful of the fact that I really can't afford to hurt myself again , racing and riding is so much fun but I'm seriously screwed if I break myself again , I don't want to give up riding not now not ever but iv really gotta be careful n try not to get caught up in the moment with the other guys n hey I'm pretty much last in vcm anyway lol so won't make much difference

Ah man that really sux balls! Choosing work over play is always bitter sweet. But give up those bloody coffin nails! There no good for ya! :)
Sounds like your between a rock n a hard place that only you can predict your outcome, personally I hope you choose work because buying a business is a workable cash cow and even if you never race again :( you can find new hobbies to get involved in as well as Vcm maybe just a new avenue of pitbike racing? Just a thought anyway pal, best of luck with it!

Ah **** royza! Sucks man not the best news. But Cordogs is right. Gotta give up the smokes. It really affects how your body repairs itself let along how it functions normally. You'll save money too!!! Ill catch ya next weekend at vcm

Cheers guys n I know I need to stop smoking wish I never started, as far as racing n riding goes I figure I can hurt myself just as bad mucking around than I can racing so kinda means I have to decide if to ride at all... In all seriousness iv said it before n I'll say it again , miniriders has saved my life , you all are my brothers n I have a lot of respect for all that you have done , riding bikes , racing , meeting you guys n regularly catching up is a massive part of my life , obviously to have a life I need to work n right now I have to focus on that but I still can't give up riding its my only real outlet as growing up I had other destructive ways now I ride n get involved , maybe I just need to take a little step back n hope for the best, if I injure myself I will pay for it heavily but to put all this effort in n not be able to reap the benefits such as building a nice bike :) and riding makes it all kind of seem pointless , I'll be there next round hussy I wouldn't miss it for the world just need to ride within my limits I hope I don't end up eating my words

it's a terrible situation to be in, and believe you me I know all about destructive behaviours before Minibikes. But there are worse things than not riding again. Chronic excruciating arthritis in your 50's for example or worse! But no one can make your decisions for you mate, you sound like you have your head screwed on, seeings your about to take over a business n all. Just do your self a favor n think about the long term benefits of not riding as a posed to short term gains!
Best of luck with it mate!

Been weighing it up ever since my big off last year mate just sucks cheers for your input though means a lot

Another way to look at it is..... you never know whats round the corner, so live for the moment and then if your still around then deal with the repurcussions later, I myself would not stop riding for anything short of having both my legs and arms removed and or incapacitated, and even then i'd be trying to think of ways to strap myself on a can-am :) After losing my old man at the age of 46 I have a slightly different attitude to most, along the lines of you never know whats gonna happen tommorow so make the most of today. But it all comes down to you making the final decision mate, and we're all here to throw different ideas at you to make you more confused LOL

I use a omega neck race Roy, comfortable straight away
Supposably If I had a crash and landed on my head or shoulder it's meant break on force and acts as suspension to stop my neck or collarbone breaking.
It's cheaper then the leatt and alpinestars at $329 or $350 I think

If you can afford them knee braces are a good idea! I learnt this the hard way came off funny and kicked the ground and ripped two chunks of bone off my tibia and in under my kneecap! Surgery and 6 weeks in a brace and 6 months off the bike, it's much better in the long run to fork out the money for the right gear then hurt yourself. I only have been back on bikes for about a month and I now will not ride unless I have my knee braces on!
