What lets you know that your bike is overheating? Can you tell just by touching your exhaust?

hot everything if it's overheating.
what does the porcelain on the end of the spark plug look like?

probably not a good idea to touch your exhaust if you value your fingertips.

You can smell the oil starting to cook and you can hear the internals a lot more as the oil thins up and if she starts to boil up it will pour out the crankcase breather.

it will just feel hot, at the base of the cylinder would be a good spot i guess when my bike dumped all its oil it smoked a bit (from the base gasket and head) and was bloody hot if i touched anywhere on the engine

the best way to know is to fit a temp gauge on the head or exhaust or somthing

Yes Mick you can feel the heat coming from engine too and i have seen the exhaust pipe out from the head glow orange when a pilot jet is way to lean also.

I use a oil temp gauge that i screw into the dipstick hole so that i can check the heat of the oil when tuning a bike its very handy.

On ebay you can get the shorter length needle ones for the smaller cc engines and the longer ones for larger engines. I only use it for tuning as they damage easy on the dial face.

it will need and adapter to screw into, either a oil line T fitting or a brass reducer/adapter for the sump plug.
