    XR70 top end upgrade

I got the kickstart taken care of. I have an old BW80 lump in the shed and the kicker on it has the same size shaft and is about 1 1/2" longer than the Honda! Man that makes a big difference. Just for anyone else that reads this, a pw80 has the same kickstart on it.

    XR70 carb on a z50

I have the carb from a 2000 xr70 (actually, whole top end -head). I was wondering if there would be any benefit from putting the 70's carb and intake on my '99 Z50r. I would eventually like to put the jug and an E22 head on it also, but the bike is running fine now and I hate to tear off a...

    XR70 top end upgrade

The kickstart is about 6" top to bottom (this is the overall), and the shaft is 12mm+/-.

Off topic abit but not really... Are there longer kickstarters available out there? My little man can start it when it's warm, but it's still tough. I think a longer shaft would help him out alot.

Thanks man! That's a big hookup considering the s/h everyone wants for a single jet.

Thanks for the tips, I put the needle all the way up (5th) and now it's running a bit rich according to the plug but stills has the bog; I'll look into a new pilot. The kit only comes with mains. It seems like the needle in the TB carb has a very docile profile, I'd like to find one with more of...

    XR70 top end upgrade

Okay, head bolts needed retorqued, there was an air leak causing it to run lean and hot which started burning off the built up carbon and oil in the exhaust. Not smoking at all now and running strong. Now jetting, :O I have replaced the 88 main with a 90 and have the needle on the 4th...

    XR70 top end upgrade

Good to know about the cam chain, makes me feel better. I did probably have an excessive amount of oil in the valve guides and I don't know how much was supposed to be used in the bore. I've only run it for a few minutes because it was so late when I finished. I'll get her seated tomorrow...

    XR70 top end upgrade

I pulled a barely used gear out of a clone 70. I also used the clone's tensioner spring, it was a good bit stiffer. I hope I didn't make a mistake buying the D.I.D. chain from you, I didn't know anything about the oem being weak. Do new top ends usually smoke a bit while the rings are...

    XR70 top end upgrade

I got my parts from FPM and everything is there and lookis good! I discovered why I am having to replace the topend on this bike. I noticed excessive cam chain noise when I bought it a month or two ago. Apparently someone had removed the cam chain tensioner accidentally and then after...

    Dogboy's Aped out XL75

Looking real nice. Is the peg mount bar the old rigid style!?! That will suck in a sharp turn, my cb125 cafe was like that and I had to replace them with a quickness.

XR 50's and XR 70's are horizontal, 75's and up are vertical.

    XR70 top end upgrade

thanks for the tips. I have already honed the exhaust and remove the spark arrestor, but I haven't found a working link for the clutch mod. I've done this on my Lt80, but all I had to do was remove weigths. I drill these puppies out asap!

    XR70 top end upgrade

I have already made arrangements with ....he who must not be named... on the 88 kit. However, I have ordered everything else I feel I'll be needing from Fire Power Minis to spread it around a bit. Now we'll see who ships faster ;) Thanks for all the help guys. Jon

I apreciate the response and advice GDFP. I think I'll stick with the honda case and put the 88cc jug, Hi comp piston, reprofiled cam, and the 20mm carb on, plus a new cam chain. That will run me around $250 +s/h. Now I just need to know if my factory exhaust will be okay for a while cause...
