I'm not sure cable ties would be strong enough to hold the spokes together properly, they may not break easily but they will have a lot more give and stretch than wire.

The upside down trick is legitimate but not for this situation. If you on a trail and sink your bike underwater, in a creek or something, you can remove the fuel tank, remove the spark plug, tip the bike upside down and kick it over to get the water out of the engine.

I was told this is standard with the long travel suspension on bikes these days. Didn't make sense to me but it was the same effect on all four bikes I looked at two weeks ago when he told me. The guy who told me has had a lot of bikes and a lot of recent experience.

Here's the advice I got from ninetysix when I asked the same question : usually you leave an air gap about the same size as the suspensions travel .... ie if the forks move 130mm, then with the spring out and the fork compressed, fill it with oil up to 130mm from the top

Don't get to keen on adjusting the carb. Jets don't change, if the mix was OK previously it could be a blocked air filter. Clean the filter, start the bike, warm it up then put in a new plug. Run it at full throttle and check the plug.

They only hurt when they bite. Sort of like a pit bike!

Did you clean the tank before you used the bike? There is often a lot of plastic shavings in the tank when they are delivered. Do you have a fuel filter? Clean out the carby and see how it goes.
