Are they as good as an old jap 50 like a Z50 or are they chinese?

i think they are italian. u could probly buy a z50 motor and put it in there.
or see if u can get parts for the origanal. umm just like rip apart the engine and check it out see what needs replacing.

Benelli is an italian company. They are one of those typical italian companies that keep going broke and being bought out by another italian company. A bit like ducati. LOL

it would cost alot to restore i reckon, italian aeroplanes, cars and motorbikes (such as ducati) are expensive generally. they are generally high quality but usually way expensive.
