Hey Guys,
just like to share this its an easy way to build your rims
Identify your spokes - First off, you will notice if you look (AND YOU'D BETTER), there are 2 different spokes to work with. Look closely at the spoke heads and you'll notice that one is more "HOOKED" than the other. These spokes go on the "INSIDE OUT" of the hub. The spokes that look like a 90 degree or "L" go on the "OUTSIDE IN." These are also called the "heads up" spokes.
Pre-lace Tips: Before you start, here are a couple of tips: LUBE the threads of the spokes with linseed oil when threading the nipples. This will help keep the nipples from binding when you go to TRUE the wheel up. Also, put ALL of the spokes into the hub on BOTH sides before screwing any nipples on because its EASIER now then to try this lat er...
Getting a reference point: Here is how I get a reference point to start. With a pencil, mark the 2 spokes on each side of the hub that are at the valve stem hole. These will be "heads up" spokes. This is your starting point on each side of the hub. I always start on the hub side but it doesn't matter.
1) Start with a "heads up" spoke. Use "any one if not pre-marked" to the right of the valve hole.
2) Take the spoke just to the right of the "heads up" spoke. This will be a "heads down" spoke. Cross it over the "heads up" spoke to the left 2 spoke holes. Thread the nipple just enough that the spoke won't fall off.
3) Take the next "heads up" spoke to the right of your starting point and count 4 spoke holes to the right. That's the hole in the rim that this spoke goes. Remember to thread the nipple just enough so the spoke won't fall off.
4) Now, repeat step #2. Take the next spoke to the right and cross it over the "heads up" spoke and go over 2 spoke holes to the left.
5) Repeat steps #1 and #2 five more times and you are done with one side.
6) Now, carefully flip the whole assembly over. and find the "heads up" spoke that you marked on this side of the hub for your starting reference point. This "heads up" spoke goes into the other hole next to the valve hole.
If you did not mark your reference point, here is how you find it. Looking down at your hub turn the hub counter clockwise as much as you can Look down at the wheel and find the "heads up" spoke on the other side of the rim. It will be 4 holes to the left of the valve hole. Look at the hub find the "heads up" spoke that is across from this spoke. THIS IS THE ONE THAT YOU START WITH ON THIS SIDE. Put this heads up spoke next to the valve hole on this side. You are ready to start this side.
7) Now repeat step #2 take the spoke to the right and cross it over 2 spoke holes and go from there... Take your time! You will start to see the pattern. Read this tutorial a few times first, then go to it!
