Be careful/investigate it before you do it. Most 70s Suzukis 2 strokes had CCI meaning they fed oil to the crank bearings AND the carb seperately (2 lines from the pump) as the bearings weren't lubricated by the fuel mixture.

Definitely Chinese. If you need a new piston/rings most chinese 86/90cc motors use a 47mm piston (same as a stock stroke 70/72cc). The engine number on the bottom of the motor on the chain side below the sprocket will confirm this if it has a 47 in the first 4 or 5 numbers (eg IP47########).

Make sure it isn't just the clutch slipping. The kicker drives through the clutch so if its slipping (adjustment,worn out, dried out plates from storage with no oil, using an oil not designed for wet clutches)the top end will hardly move which could explain the lack of compression at the plug.

Dont want to spoil the ending for you, but once you spend hours working it out and running with the new CDI, i doubt you will notice a difference. Sorry not a helpful post

Or just take the stator cover off, see if the flywheel spin when you kick it over. These motors the kicker drives through the clutch, if the clutch adjustment is out, the motor wont turn over. Just because it is new don't assume the clutch is adjusted correctly (or even assembled correctly)...
