Filters... Wire mesh or UNI??

Hey my brother bought his first bike its pretty crappy an AMS125...

But i noticed that it had a wire mesh filter on the carby instead of the faom filter...

Whats the diffrence and whats better??

I prefer a foam Uni Filter coz i think its better for stopping the finer particles from getting through. There easy to clean and wont clog up as easy as the mesh so the bike can breath better for longer.
