hi guys,
am new to the site and just wanted to ask you guys a question! my mate just bought a dodgy 125cc pitty for 150 bucks. the guy said it had spark and when we went and had a look it indeed did, it did not however run. hence the 150 bucks. we figured it just had a fuel issue "dirty jets" ect. so after the ride home in the car we took it out of the ute, cleaned the carby thoroughly. put everything back together and it started and ran. ran very rough but it ran lol. we decided to call it a night and work on it the next day. we tried re starting the bike the following day and we had lost spark. also we noticed quite a bit of fuel leaking out of the drain screw on the bottom of the bowel of the carby. this only happened everytime we "kicked" over the bike. every kick more and more petrol came out. and yes the screw is tight!. rather than muck around with everything my mate just decided to replace basically everything. it now has new 26mm carby, sparkplug, sparkplug lead, coil, and CDI unit. we also re soldered the wires "the connections were a bit dirty under the tape". but we still have no spark.....PLEASE HELP!

Un hook the killswitch in case it is faulty mate, If you unhook the wires for the magneto, Blue/white, red/black and green(maybe a yellowx2 or yellow and white) remove the plug and hold the red/black wire in one hand and the green(earth) in the other, get someone to kick the bike over continuously while you touch the 2 wires together quickly on and off, if there is a nice blue spark then good but if there is no spark or a very weak yellowish wire it can be adodgy magneto stator,if you have spark then the pickup on the stator plate may be dodged, if you have a multimeter you can put the setting on the resistence setting

and put the red lead in the blue/white wire and the black on the engine earthing it out, turn the magneto(back and forth) so the raised knob on the flywheel passes the pickup. If your multimeter has a beep setting with the resistence setting it will beep but if it doesnt it will come up with numbers when it passes, if the number or beep stay constant without going off or back to (1) then its faulty, but if it only beeps or numbers only arise when the flywheel knob passes then its working.

Thanks a lot mate! Your advice is much appreciated! Will have a suss tonight

All good mate, let us know how you go.

Turned out to be more than we expected! The stator was completley shot! We replaced it and we got spark. Got fuel spitting out the air filter on kick over though. A quick adjustment of the valves and she started and ran beautifully!
