As per Mack's advice in the mini tutorial forum, I'm starting a new thread.
I've not even ridden my MSO 140SR yet. Well not properly ridden it on a track. Too wet! But I've fully assembled it and thinking about some (future) simple engine mods for more a little more throttle response and other gains.
So my questions for Mack or anyone else ...
Re Piston. Via Mack's advice I found HOME Akunar Motorcycle Parts & Accessories Looks like for a 55mm bore Lifan 140 I can choose between:
* Pro-R, 12.45mm pin to deck, 2.00mm dome. AKRRP002-E
* Pro, 13.00mm pin to deck, 8.5mm dome. AKPRP009-D
Which one will go straight into a stock new Lifan 55mm bore 140cc engine? I sent Akunar a message but they are on holidays for another 2 weeks. When my engine is say 50 hrs old, should I install a new cylinder with a new piston? I assume the bore is not plated.
Re IRK and balancing: No need for a test ride. I am dead keen on less rotating mass. Ques: Is no balancing method/check ever an issue in terms of reliability?
Oil slinger (alum): Again less rotating mass. But where to buy? ebay web link or search keywords? I did some searches but came up empty. Saving 700g in rotating mass sounds very attractive.
Re extern inline oil filter: Mack, was the system you saw effective? Custom job or retail parts? Reasons for asking: I drained the "transport oil" before the first start up. After 10 mins running on a good mineral oil I drained again. Out came loads of metal "filings". Mostly manufacturing swarf I think. Coming off Jap bikes, this just made me realise that the zero filter and zero oil screen concept a bit weird since crap just circulates until it is ground into small enough pieces.
Magnetic oil drain plug. For anyone curious, I measured it up as a M12, 1.5mm pitch, 15mm long thread. I shall buy one on ebay. I must have item - particularly with no oil filter.
Valve clearances: I set mine at 003 intake and 004 exhaust (or a little looser). They were both real tight at 0025 each. Ques: How often do they need checking? Anyone else found they needed to remove the bash plate to check the exhaust valve clearance?
