does any one know of anyone who fits parts in QLD for my 140 lifan . i am buying a new complete head and the lot like the cam and shit and i have no idea how to do it i would rather pay to get it done than stuff my engine right up
It's not so hard. Approx steps:
0) clean engine outside thoroughly.
1) Tie bars up to your ceiling so front wheel off ground.
2) bash plate off. Exhaust header off. Inlet off.
3) drain oil. Turn off fuel.
4) head covers off.
5) cam sprocket bolts off (9mm) and pop the sprocket off.
6) Left side head-to-cylinder bolt off.
7) Tap head with wood or plastic mallet to free it up. Pull it off.
8) Now if you have a complete head. Put some engine oil in the guts of it, and put it on. And lightly nip up the left side cyl/head bolt.
To set the cam timing do this:
A) Remove magneto cover and set flywheel mark to TDC (12 oclock).
B) set your cam rotation by hand so the valves are both shut and the cam is free to turn a little.
C) Set cam sprocket mark to 9 o'clock, rotate camshaft a little by hand so the sprocket bolt holes line up, then use a medium sized screw driver to lever pop the original cam sprocket onto the camshaft.
D) Install the cam sprocket bolts and torque them to about 15nm each.
Continue:
9) Set valve (stem to rocker) clearances. Usually 003 inlet and 004 thou exhaust.
10) Check valve to piston clearance. Assuming your new cam has >6mm of inlet valve lift and you have a stock Lifan 140 piston. This check procedure is a topic of its own. I used a little blu-tac blob to check mine.
11) Install all head covers, and torque the head nuts to 15nm each. Note the lower right side head nut has the different type of washer under it. This is the special stud which allows oil flow to your head.
12) Add some engine oil. About 900ml will do in the 140 I think.
13) With no spark plug installed: Turn engine over by hand. Listen and feel for anything odd. If all seems good then keep turning it over to pump some oil into your new head.
14) Install all other parts (exhaust, inlet, flywheel cover, etc). Be sure your inlet manifold lines up as best as possible with your intake port. Yeah easier said than done, but you'll work it out.
Good luck.
