rear shock valve

hey everyone this may be a really dumb question but ive been dying to find out. on the rear shocks that arnt gas adjustable why is there a valve there? like i thought it could be for an aftermarket gas adjustable thing but yea im kinda stupid. hope someone can help me out here.

its so you can put air in your shock to either make it stiffer...o u canlet arout to make it softer. some shocks dont have a valve that you can see...but if you pull the shock apart there is likely to be a valve on the top of the shock

so if you let the air out it gets softer???
my shock had perfect rebound until i let whatever it was that was in there out.....i want my shock softer....its a fastace but its stiff, whats goin on?

it might have a 1000lb spring...if you plan on doing jumps trust me...you want it stiff...but if its a cruizin bike you might want to get a softer back spring
