ps. rumble how did you did you do that star photography?

You have probably googled it by now but.... long exposure, low iso and i think small aperture.

the 550d i was using only has a 30sec auto exposure setting without a controller, so i taped the button down for 15 minutes.
The photo was with the camera sitting on my tshirt on a mound of dirt. you cant have the camera moving at all! even on a tripod with a bit of wind around will make it blurry.

Most star trail pics are a combination of photos, layered/stacked in Photoshop with hours of work put in. Holding your shutter open can actually damage your sensor.
The below image, is from a guy that regularly posts on another forum im involved with. Details of the pic are:

720 single 60 seconds shots, f4.5 ISO800.
The total shoot time was about 15 hours, 860 images. Of the 720 star images about half had plane trails that had to be cloned out, that took 6 hours, another 6 hours to stack it, and about 4 hours to blend and pp.

If you look at the pic you can see that there is movement in it. The image is soft/OOF. You can also see by the trees that there may have been a breeze, which wouldnt have helped.

Im guessing it was linked from FB or something as i cant view any EXIF data.

Awesome effort though, star trails are hard as fook to capture.

By putting a dark tshirt over the lens you can do what ever you want, take off the tape, also reposition the camera. only just thought of that and may have to try it out.....

yeah 30 sec exposures are cool, ive done a few. Thats pretty much the limit of my Cam.

The 15min bit kinda worried me though lol 638 sec is like 10 mins yeah?

Im gonna try some tonight (car lights from a bridge) We'll see how it goes lol
