Yep you can do it,
here is a picture of mine. (Tommahawk KX 250)
How To:undo the hex bolts, take the silencer out and put the bolts back in (tight and with locktite-blue) should look like this. I also adjusted air fuel mixture (richened it up) and increased idle speed, i dont think the carby adjustment were essential i just needed to do it on my bike and did it all in one day

Doesnt make a performance difference, only noise, give it a throaty deeper sound and more rumble under brakes.
