First of all a bit of background. I have worked in the bicycle industry for over ten years in a retail store. I have only really recently gotten involved with moto's.

What i am amazed by is the moto shops. The arrogance and at times, rudeness of shop staff shown towards customers is astonishing. From my own experience i have found going into a good majority of the bigger bike shops that primarily sell jap bikes and mentioning that you ride a chinese pit bike, you are straight away looked down on. I find that without even mentioning you ride a chinese pit bike the shop staff treat you like rubbish and act like they know everything and that you are merely just an inconvenience to them a lot of the time. If i treated a customer like this that walked into the bike store i work at the customer wouldn't purchase goods from us and my superiors would not be at all happy with me. When someone comes into my workplace and mentions they ride a brand or type of bike that we don't sell or that i think is not so great, i dont look down on them or treat them like they don't know what theyre doing. Im there to help and sell product and thats what i do.

It makes sense that so many people buy mini bike parts and parts in general over the internet when bike shops treat you like rubbish. So many of the bike shops just seem to get their backs up as soon as you mention "mini bike" or "pit bike". Its quite funny how dumb that they can be about it. Its obviously opening up a niche in the market for people like SA Fun bikes, Maylands Performance Engines, MSO, DHZ etc... Mini bikes are here to stay and will only grow in popularity and the bigger shops will lose out in the end if they dont want to help all types of customers.

What got me thinking about all of this was today i went into a big popular moto shop here in Adelaide to see if i could pick up a kickstarter for one of my bikes as i was passing by. I would and usually prefer to go to a mini bike store like SAFB or MPE but forget that for now. Just passing by and thought it might have worked out conveniently well for me. I took in the old one to show what i wanted. The sales attendant goes off and then comes back and asks what bike it what was from, being a very generic item that i know you can pick up for $20 from various online sources and other stores i told them it was just off of a Chinese pit bike. Then i got the, "Oh youve got a piece of shit bike and were going to rip you off" look. The attendant comes back with one which looks even crustier than the cheap little shitter i have already. I think ok, it will do its only for my old bike and to get me going for the weekend. Then i look at the price. $40. My god, i respect the fact that people are in business to make money but geesh... I asked if that was all they had and got told that was it, so i obviously didnt buy it.

Its when things like this happen that i just think, what wankers. They dont deserve your money or support. Then they get upset that people buy things over the internet... I wonder why people buy from online sources when local stores treat you like rubbish.

Dude, your so fucking right. I go into this shop "Bikes Plus" on Keilor rd, Essendon. They mainly sell real bikes , honda, ktm, yamaha, suzuki etc.. Each time I ask for something for my pitbike, they give me these dirty looks like I'm fucking scum with a chinese bike compared to all the others buying parts for their 4000+ Bikes. As you said, Its complete bullshit.. We are buying stuff from THEM, They are making money out of it but yet they still give us the dirty looks.

I think all dirt bike stores that sell normal Jap bikes are getting absolutely hammered by the Chinese/pit bike sales. Not many first time buyers are going out and buying a YZ or CR for $8000 there getting a pitty for a grand. So you can understand why they will knock the shit out of chinese bikes the minute you mension them.

Im not going to be suprised when the Gov bans the chinese imports. But i must admit the attitude you get from some shops is just plain shithouse, if they had any sense they would stock up of chinese parts and charge 10% more than the ebay sell price- i would buy from them if it was just down the road??? Improvise, adapt, SURVIVE

well were i got mine once i got my bike its like get lost ant gears were stuffed had 30day warrenty they say my bikes fine its u lol took off the seat hooks were bent r seat and my frend has had pitty for a yeAR and the gears wer stuffing 4 him 2 SONEVER BUY FROM HAPPY JACKSONS IN IPSWICH

i buy my parts from goeff taylor yamaha in dandenong. the service there is awesome. i rang them up before i went in to buy the parts and when i got there they had all the parts ready waiing for me. but the magneot puller was pretty expensive i must say. $58 or something like that it was

here's a funny story that happened to me a month ago, (exactly about your subject title)

i went into our local MotoShop (yamaha/husky dealer etc) and just browsing around, anf the guys were great, very helpful, very chatty,

anyway after 20mins browsing i ended up with

2x 4lt 4 stroke oil ($95)
pair grips ($15)
2x tubes ($25)
2 packs of tie down straps ($50)
and a helmet that was going on layby ($299)

had it all on the counter, and just before i said that was all thanks, i asked if they could get me a $10 jet for my ST50, to which he said "we dont deal with chinese shit" than to follow up with, people with chinese bikes are nothing more than a bourdon to a real bike shop!!!!

i than proceded to put my wallet away and left nearly $500 worth of gear on the counter, and gladly said with great pleasure, "stick that stuff up your ass"

never been back and never will, ive brought 2 x 2stroke dirtbikes of them in the past 3 years, they serviced both of em, and he thought it was still acceptable to say that after the 1000's ive spent in past 4 years,

rant over

I buy all my stuff of the internet I guss thats a good thing after reading this

LOL not ALL Chinese imports, just the bikes dude. If they banned everything from China we wouldnt even have computers to write this shit.

Its simple, as soon as they hear you're not interested in a big bike, they wont like you. But I know think why, how annoying would it get, kids coming in asking you to fix cheap chinese/ebay bikes? Or just kids going in to a shop (and have no idea about real bikes) and go oooh, how much is that one??? I've seen it happen, because I worked for a small time in my dads mates KTM shop.

Mate, try working in a bicycle store that sells lots of trick expensive bikes that is a five minute ride away from a massive inner city dirt jump park! Thats all part of any retail store. Treat those annoying kids like shit and it bites you in the arse. Those annoying kids grow up and earn money or have parents that have money.

So after thinking more about this i decided to put one of the big big stores in the heart of the Adelaide CBD to the test today on my way past to work. Walk in and one of the bike sales guys is super friendly as i was checking out the CRF150's and so forth. Talk to him a bit more then ask for spare parts etc and he kindly points me in the direction of the counter. So go over there and show him an example of the kickstarter im looking for. Which was a broken CNC machined kickstarter. Instananeously he gets his back up and says "We only stock parts for bikes that we sell." So i replied "It doesn't need to be exactly the same as this one, just a cheap plain steel one or one similar to the ones on the smaller CRF bikes will fit fine and help me out." Then he comes back with "We dont stock kickstarter's at all mate. You will have to go to your friendly wherever you get them from place." With that i started laughing out loud and walked out the store.

Once again the moto store shines through as a bunch of wankers... Not that i really want to right now but it completely puts me off of the idea of buying a big bike as i would have to deal with wankers like this.

this is true.. but however i cant really complain about my experience with moto shops.. bak in the day wen i had my pitty... i would always visit a reputable mx shop by the name PETER STEVENS motorcycles on elizabeth street in the melb cbd... i asked for a chain that would fit my pitty there and they nicely told me they dont stock that type of chain... then the store assitant gladly wrote out the deatails and dirctions to the nearsest pitbike store/specialist... i was greatfull.. and proceeded on my way to get my parts ... also Benox... i highly agree with u about the boyz at bikes plus.. me and my bro went in and i asked for some pitty parts and they gave me a a dirty smirk( if looks could kill id be dead).. and told me they dont deal with chinese junk.. so i gladly told them to get fuked and walked out:D ... my bro pissed himself laughing and came out later with over $400 bux worth of shit for his bike.. ( kx250)... bloody scum they are..

from now on i stick to peter steven because the chiks that work there are stunners and its great that they ride and understand a buyers point of view .. like needing parts asap.. hopefully they have little sisters my age LOL..

KTSS .. laterz

we are lucky we have one shop in kingaroy who deal with everything without looking down on you burnett motorcycles.great people and they dont care if you ride a ktm or a chink bike.kingaroy motocycles and the honda joint are sshhiitt.

man some of those bike shops are soo gay then...we have mud n' tar motorcycles in wauchope and i have been in there a few times to get stuff for my pitty and they are the most helpful guys, they've made up cables, sold me good grips. and they had to change a tyre because we couldn't do it and they said that the compund chinese tyres are made out of are harder to get off but they didnt bagg them out or enything...

just my 2c worth. :)

Yep, Im in adelaide, Ive had that alot of times.

But you just have to find the good professional shops, I'd reccomend SA dirt bikes, they sell pittys and parts aswell as big bikes, they had some KLX 110's, pitster pro's etc last time I went in, they have a good range of pitty parts.

Some pretty outrages storys in this thread!

Slightly off topic, but relevant to bagging bike shops:

Yeah, stealerships in Adelaide seem to be disrespectful in alot of ways. A few of the guys in the group my brother rides with work in shops and their so full of it. Ricky knows alot of the staff at various shops around Adelaide and he's been dealing with them for years. But he takes everything they say with a grain of salt. Everyone talks themselves up and like to pretend they know more than they actually do. Ricky has had a run in with a few of them at the track (not 'literally' run in) and they think because he's on his GSXR600 he built for under $5K and they are on their $10K R1CBRGSXRZXR that they are any better. Their whole attitude is "I work in a bike shop, so I'm better than you". One sales person in particular was always giving Ricky shit about racing an 'old' 2002 GSXR600 while he raced a 2005 GSXR1000. Turns out when the clutch drops and the bullshit stops, this guy could only manage 1m22s around Mallala, whereas Ricky is doing 1m17s!!! They don't talk much anymore.

We've also mentioned around this guy that we've purchased and are building pitbikes and his scoffed at us about them. They're so far up themselves they can't even imagine having fun on something they don't sell. So yeah some dealerships are full of wankers.

ggezz ruby.. if i was Ricky i would have slapped that guy silly by now..hmm yer im a lil agro... but i idc.. it just makes me ride better.. :D

yer im over bike shops bieng wankers it takes a lil peace of pride away each time you say you ride a china
