Hey guys, im making a guard for my yz rear brake system. Figured i'd post it here because im sure some of you would be interested.

Okay so firstly i was looking at buying one of these, then i saw the price $85 plus delivery. So i headed down to the local Aluminium retailer and went digging in the off cuts section and found exactly what i needed. Some 6mm thick plate. (Same as what b&b and force use)
In total, it cost me $6.70 for a plate 300x200x6

I created all the drawings i needed in Solidworks (i like to work off a plan). Here is the initial design i came up with.

After multiple (4) reviews i came up with a design i was happy with. This way all the slots line up with where they would sit on the swing arm.

Next i used contact adhesive to temporarily stick the cutout piece of paper (1:1 ratio) onto the plate using one of the factory cuts as a datum point.
I then centre-punched all the drill holes and internal fillets following all the centre points that were on the CAD drawing.
Then i traced the edges of the cutout with a scriber. And finally peeled the paper off the alloy plate. The adhesive was removed with brake cleaner.

I then took the plate to the shed and cut out the plate into a rough blank.

Then took to the file and cleaned up all the cutouts.

Today i spent a while cutting the slots and then sanding and polishing the guard part. I think it looks pretty good. Best bit is, i made it and didnt buy it.

Tomorrow i will cut this piece out and then drill mounting holes.

Okay so its been a few days and its all done.

I cut out the bracket that attaches the guard to the swingarm, tapped the existing hole in the swingarm and drilled and tapped the front hole.

After mounting it all up i found a fault in my plan which i knew would come up but i thought i'd just sort it out when i got to it. The weld holding the send part of the swing arm on was pushing the bracket down. And not allowing it to sit flush on the swingarm. I did some profiling on the part too.

And the finished product :) just need to bolt the oem brake guard back on.
