I used combination a aircraft stripper, metal brush and sandpaper. It took some time for sure. I coated it with Rust-oleum professional primer and Rust-Oleum Professional safety red. The paint has held up excellent. Just make sure you use a strong degreaser before you paint.

What do you think of the color I painted the rims? I'm thinking maybe aluminum paint might look better. Or should I leave them that color to match with the black motor that's going on it?
