125cc ATV Cable size :p

Hi guys i have a chinese quad bike that my sons had since new its been pretty decent too us

beside a problem with the throttle cable anyway i decided too change it and it looks like ive bought the wrong size its too shorts and makes the engine over rev :p and i cant adjust it coz its too short/ tight too begin with :p

normally when you look at online stores for throttle cables there 2 different measurements

what do they mean :p from end too end my original cable is 84cms can someone give me some advice on buying the right sized one :p

you seemed to double up on your posts there, i have deleted the other one.

there are so many different cable measurements, and where they are measured from too
some measure the cable outers, some the inners, some sellers list both.

this is a pitbike cable, it has 110mm of cable hanging out the end of the outer
you need an adjuster about 12" down the cable though

this one look to have about 80mm of cable out the end

this one has 67mm out the end

if the cable you have now is close to fitting,
if you are careful, you can cut some off the outer to suit your needs?
use an angle grinder to carefully grind down the insulation, then some of the metal, when it is close to going through( before you hit the cable) stop
then snap the bit you want to cut off with a pair of pliers, then open up the windings and spin it off your cable
deburr any sharp edges left from the grinder too with a fine file, and oil the new cable before you fit it.

the only damage i can see is on the insulation at the cable ends, where it fits into the adjuster
it is just normal wear and tear
as long as it isn't kinked anywhere along the cable.

i would just hang one end of it up, and run some Inox MX5 or similar down the cable, it will last for years yet.

no worries mate i might chuck the old one back on and see how it goes

some times when he give it a rev too full throttle it wants too stall:( i thought the throttle was bugged :p
