Alright guys I have a 79 Yamaha GT80 that me and my son are in the process of restoring but we've run into an unexpected issue. It seems as though the kick start idler gear shaft has broken inside the case. It has enough shaft left on it to stay put somewhat but still has quite a bit of movement in it. I would like to just replace the shaft but it appears that the shaft runs through the case and is a part of something else in the engine "trans shaft maybe"?? It's the shaft that the idler gear is mounted onto. Any help would be great I really don't want to pull the motor and split the cases if I don't have to.
