Jaycar stuff arrived and managed to get the power supply sorted:

When its a nice day ill set up the electrolysis again and see how it goes

Gave the electrolysis another go, it definately worked better this time, there is still a bit of rust so ill be giving it another go, hopefully itll get all of the final bits of rust off and I can finally get this bike buttoned down.

I also managed to pick up a genuine front fairing for $50, so i am stoked as with that!

You can't really tell from the photos but a fair bit came off. I'm going to do it again, I think the problem was that I was using high quality bolts as the donor steel, so it wasnt pulling the rust from the inside of the tank as well as it should, plus I was running low on baking soda, so im going to pick up some more baking soda and use much lower quality steel as the donor and give it another go

Without reading the entire thread...have you used molasses? This stuff works wonders for rust removal/ chrome rejuvenation. I had great success when restoring a z50. Buy it for $10 in 5l tubs, dilute 5:1 and leave for a week, come back and the rust is gone

Wow, never heard of that? Sounds like a cheap fix :)

Nah I havn't used molasses, but it sounds like a great way to do it!

The bonus of using Electrolysis is that all of the rust binds to the sacrificial steel so when you pull it out all of the little rust flakes and things go with it

Yeah they are fantastic bikes!

I also changed the oil and filter the other day so I can start to put the fairing back on!

Looking forward to finishing up the tank and getting the bike completed!

Great to see someone salvaging an older bike with a bit of know-how and elbow grease instead of buying the latest and greatest thing from the showroom.

Been flat out at work lately and with the days being shorter its been hard to get a chance to work on the bike but I have managed to get a bit of work done over the weekend.

My Kreem Tank Liner arrived from the states and I must say that it is a great kit.

Since going through electrolysis the tank built up a bit of surface rust, which was quickly removed by stage 1 of the kit.

I have applied 1 layer of the liner (It has pooled a bit in the photo but i swished it around after). 1 more thick coat tomorrow to finish it off and ill be ready to finish getting the tank ready for paint.

Well with the weather being all over the place it's been hard to get a window to paint the tank, but it is finally finished!

I also installed a brand new pet**** filter and got an inline filter as a backup. I also used a paint marker to highlight the lettering on the selector:

When the weather clears up again I'll get the tank back on the bike, give it a clean and post some pictures. All that's left to do is put some new seat covers on, get it roadworthied and registered.

Once thats done I'll look at a new muffler and tyres

Dude that tank came up an absolute treat!!!!!!!! Have to be happy with that.

Can't wait to see this finished. :)

Finally got a chance to put the tank on and get it ready to ride.
All that remains is to get some new seat covers, do the valve clearances, get some new tyres, new chain and give her a clean.

I might also have to try and revive the chain guard as it's looking pretty tired.

These are the seat covers that i'm looking at:

Yellow Black Custom Fits Honda CBR 250 MC 22 Rear Pillion Seat Cover | eBay

Here are some pics of the bike as she stands:

I sprayed the chain guard matte black, which has really improved the look. It will get scuffed easily but it will still look better than it did previously.
Now i'm turning my attention to the ram air tubes, which look a bit tired. I'm unsure of whether to spray them black or yellow?

I would go with Yellow personally.

Man you gotta be happy with how it's all turning out?

Looks sweet. :)
