Hi all,
I'm looking to see if any of you on here have had a prob with ticking/clunking noise from gearbox area. At first i thought it may have been chain adjuster, but replaced that, pulled side cover off but no prob under there. Now looking for possible internal causes.

Only happens while in gear-clutch in or out makes no difference

The noise is fairly constant, changes with speed but changing gear has no effect. (clunks approx every 1/3 turn of rear wheel)
Bike still goes fine just has this annoying tick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you sure its not your valve's that are ticking as sound will travel in a motor, try adjust them to the correct spec and see if the noise goes away or at least gets quieter.

pretty sure specs are

intake : 0.003
exhaust : 0.004

if incorrect some one will correct me

Sorry, should of added that it only makes the noise while in gear. Clutch in or out still makes the noise.

But thanks anyway mate.

could be the bearing on the outer side of the clutch.
had a similar problem with semi auto 110, changed the bearing and all was good

I had a look around near the bearing but noise seems to be coming from very rear of the box, and only under load as i can't get it to do it when on stands.

the bearing was easy to change..just take the clutch cover off and its right infront of you..

as for your last comment, it could be anything.

time to remove the clutch cover and look for anything out of the ordinary..

also are there metal shavings in the oil?

Nah no metal in oil, well not yet. I changed the oil as soon as i got it, but had noise before then. I might just ride it till it goes bang, then chuck a new motor in it.

Thanks for your help.

hmm could be the bearing on the crank, think they are a 6202, easy as piss to fix

I just took bike out to check noise again, it seems to clunk every 1/3 turn of rear wheel.
My thought now is that it has chipped tooth the final drive gear.

Has anyone had to replace this?

well first thing id be doing is checking the teeth on clutch and and other gears in that side, if its internal (gearbox) then id say buy another engine..

125's are so out dated now and not worth the trouble..

having the same problem with my ducar 125cc trying to find a replacement gearbox atm. in 3rd gear when under strain the motor jumps in and out of gear, also was making the same sort of noise before this started happening so my guesses are that the gearbox may be on its way out
