engine starting issues

so this has been going on for a while now, when i start the bike cold i have to turn the idle screw right in and kick the guts out of the bike for about 4mins straight, because of the issues ive had with the bike ive been ignoring it but i think its time i do something about it, so what are possible reasons for the bike doing this?
