How to read your plug!!!!!!!!!!!
I have bin looking around the forum and haven't seen any thing about reading your plug so here ya go
You can tell a lot by looking at your spark plug ,First start with a new plug , using a plug with the wrong heat range or incorrect gap can cause motor damage and poor performance. properly tighten the plug if not you could damage the motor. Before you take the plug out clean the area around the plug so you don't get s*$# it the cylinder. A air compressor will work fine. Run the engine for about 10 minutes cause a new plug will not change colors immediately.
To get a reading from a new spark plug you need to accelerate at full throttle
,push the kill switch and pull the clutch in if you need to to stop
remove the spark plug
look around the center electrode it should look clean and colorless with a gray ring around the center electrode where it exits the porcelain.
metallic specks indicate lean jetting that is removing metal from the piston.
Black sooty streaks on the porcelain indicate rich jetting.
different carburetor mixture conditions will cause your plug to look like this
Optimal - White or no color change with light gray ring
Lean - Extreme white with aluminum specs (overheating)
Rich - Wet or sooty
lean conditions can be caused by air leaks in exhaust system, using of the wrong air filter, use of a less-restrictive aftermarket exhaust system.
rich conditions can be caused by a plugged or dirty air filter, use of a restrictive aftermarket exhaust system, also it may smoke allot.
