l found a new use for one of the most useless items I ve purchased on ebay ,,

Screw off the (faulty ) temp probe and throw in rubbish .

keep the anodised oil filler screw cap . It has an m10 thread .

Buy lcd temp unit and temp sensor . c/w m 10 thread other sizes are available.

$ 79 for temp gauge and sensor Delivered (quality gauge as used by go kart racing)
$ 5 for anodised cap with faulty temp gauge

Gauge measures with accuracy from 0 --150 cc

Yeah l thought of that . l have run the bike for about 5 minutes and the temp did rise to 73.C .
l say it will work right ,as there is always fluid splashing around.. l think the Daytona kit has a sump plug connector that is similar . the sump would have oil circulating also. l will test further over weekend.

l carried further test today with a meat probe and the gauge. Seems to work well.

Oil temp reading identical .

l installed a sleeve over the sender wire in case the header radiates heat and melts it.

l cut up an old bar protector thou not to happy with how it looks. l will try something else .

the sensor comes with a Velcro 3m strip. l sewed one of the backing strips to the foam and the other strip attached to the unit .

l assume it will be reading the heat at its highest point as it is placed before the cooling lines.

Nice work
Are using a reg/rect to get the 12v to power it from the stator?

The unit has its own lithium battery.. c/w detachable loom . Useful for removing unit when washing.

l was looking at another unit Taiwanese made . it runs off the stator. has 2 probes and red lcd display.

you can monitor the temperature of the gear box with one probe and monitor the temperature off the cooler with the other.

But that's getting too anal. Cheap as well $40 odd bucks , only thing thou may need different probe thread sizes to suit cooler.
