yeah i noticed all the things you let the apps do when they started coming out.
i only have a couple of apps for that reason

With an Iphone you can select what you want app's to access. By default they have no access when installed until you go to an area which then asks for access to another part of the phone.

It's only Samsung and Andriod phones that switch everything on by default. Agreeing to install the app is all they need. Might be somewhere you can switch some of the stuff off?

Yep as soon as i saw this i deleted Facebook off my phone. And most of the apps that access stuff that i dont want them too.
Its scary what most people let into their phones.

our friends' kid's had an app that knew her name, and her brothers names, they are 5 and 3 year olds
and they heard the camera clicking when the kids weren't touching it
they quickly deleted the app

I didn't check mine but I thought I remembered seeing that you could turn it all off! :thumbup:

It seems innocent enough by itself self but then you throw in their ability to locate you and now watch what sites you visit! That's just a little bit too much of my personal info being sold or collected IMO.

All so they can perfect their ability to sell us crap we don't need no doubt!

Wow that seems a bit cray cray! 5's a bit young for a phone though isn't it?

Anyone that thinks any data on a computer, whether it be linux or windows (especially windows) is safe. I personally believe they have been data mining since the beginning. Governments have had (or well the regulators) access too almost anyones data whenever they feel necessary (yes must get warrants but who is to know really) the only time i would get a warrant is if i already knew the data was there so i could make it admissible to court.

And if your worried you shouldn't be on the net via anything then, because if your on you can be watched if they want?

My understanding of the apps that guy was highlighting was messenging apps, and chrome which all have functions of being able to use your camera and microphone for recording audio for use during messaging or searching.
The pop up that says it can use your camera and microphone anytime without your permission is just so everytime you use those functions in the app you don't get a window pop up asking you for permission everytime.

This is exactly why I don't have Facebook. The amount of info marketing people get there hands on from there would blow you away.

I have marketing companies contact me asking to buy user details like email addresses etc. I tell them to piss off. If you don't have confidence in a site holding your personal information then get off the site.

You can encrypt your data, hide information from ISP's use something alike the tor network but with some more transparency.


You should as a normal user clear your cache regularly using cc cleaner or something as because cookies and stuff are stored that can contain unwanted info.
install noscript to your browser.
Encrypt all of your data and save the key on two usb's Depending on the level of encryption this may be a prevention.

I do not have any social media accounts, phones or anything of that nature. Big brother is watching, and only a few people now are finally able to realise it. There was an app I read about a while ago, and apparently the users could see a man watching them through their smartphone cameras, on the little display screen it showed.

I can't stand it, I hope people wake up to it soon, privacy is just slowly being phased out...

I heard about this, we also had friends with small kids that were using this app on their ipad, apparently it was a pedo on the other end of the camera watching and interacting with the kids, it was a "kitty" something app, pretty sure it's been removed from availability now, but still makes u wonder what people are capable of doing these days.

I'm pretty liberal with my internet use, and not overly protective..... Really I have nothing to hide and nothing to steal, so any idiot is welcome to my debt, and I don't do anything I would be worried about someone else or the govt police finding out about... (I'm a square) but I do monitor my kids usage a little bit, probably not as much as I should.....

My eldest who just turned 11 had an app on his tablet that was a kids game, with porno pop ups, when trying to get to the game it came up with a message saying it was connecting to his iPod, which was in his room with him.... He tried to close it and it didn't seem to do anything more, a few days later at school ( he snuck his iPod to school) a kid took his iPod and was going thru his pic gallery, and found 3 or 4 porno pics in there with advertising all over them...

He then preceded to run around the school showing anyone and everyone he could while my boy was trying to get it back to delete the photos.... I got a phone call from the principal who informed me about what happened and that though my boy wasn't directly responsible for showing the images, it was his iPod that contained the content, so he got 4 days detention. We found out later it was this app on his android tablet, that connected to his iPod and put porno photos in the gallery....

Great for a kids game app right?! So we have reported the app and removed it, and put strict parental controls on his devices now.... Not that it will stop this from happening again, but hopefully limit it....
