Hey nice work minifighter, Ive been trying to get a shot of lightning for a while now but haven't had anything better ten what you have there. This Thursday is looking good for a storm in sa, I'll put up the pics if I get anything good. What lens were you using?

I personally don't like them camera's but its personal preference and also what your gonna be using it for. If she does not want to look like a pro and carry round a large dslr then I think the Canon G15 would be a good option, it is a faily expensive compact camera but is good quality and has a cmos sensor (same a most canon dslr's). For a little less is the canon sx40, this one also has a cmos sensor but also has a great zoom ability. I had the sx30 and loved the zoom on it. The sx40 has improved quite a bit now and I would say is a good buy. Here is a shot of the moon with the sx30 I had, it can zoom a little closer but will loose quality. The new sx40 though with its better sensor will give even better quality photo's then this one.

The sony you mentioned will still take good photo's though and if that is what she wants then that's probably the way to go to keep her happy

Hope that made sense

Here are some specs of a few cameras for you to compare,
Canon PowerShot G15 vs SX40 - Our Analysis
Wow just noticed a even newer sx50 and it is a lot better then the sx40, I'd be opting for the sx50 especially with its 50x zoom, to put that into perspective for the enthusiasts here the 35x zoom sx40 has is the equivalent to a 814mm lens, so a 50x zoom would have to be around the 1400mm mark. I couldn't by a quarter of a lens for that price to even come close to its zoom capability.

The sony will suffer in low light because it has no flash.
If you like any of the camera's I have mentioned then also try comparing them to Nikon range, canon and nikon the two best camera brands our there. (NOT including lecia of cause).

Haha, I get a little excited sometimes so sorry if I have blabbed on too much but I have also noticed the 10 fps (take 10 photo's per second(its the rpm of cameras, lol)) the sx50 can do. This kind of speed is hard to beat, even in dslr's.

There also pretty strong, I have dropped my canon sx30 from my tripod at its full height onto a timber decking and it bearly left a mark.

Few pictures i took on the weekend just gone, These were all 3 frame bracketed photos for converting to HDR, all taken with a D7000 Nikon with 70-200mm 2.8

Just wondering if any one would be interested in a build/restore thread of this boat? Have kinda been wanting to make one for a while now but just not sure if the mini community would be interested enough.

Yep, post it up... There's a PWC section somewhere if I'm not mistaken ;)
