Hey dudes,

I have a new Atomik 125cc Thumpstar - does it require Trannie Oil??

Cheers \../ \../

wrong wrong wrong you are both wrong ...............well sort of

ive been doing some experimentation on trans fluid instead of oil and have found it to be brilliant

from heaps of clutch material to none
a firmer more deffinate click into gears
monograde 4 stroke engine oil is basically the same as trans fluid
cheap as chips for a 5 litre bottle
easy visulisation of oil contamination (you see it go from red to brown)
my advice use the trans fluid

i use to use tans fluid in all my early 2 bangers bikes.. ranging from yz80's to yz465's.
even in engines with slipping clutches, with trans fluid the slip went..

iv just never looked into it enough to see if it would be ok for bore work.. tho id say its fine, im just real skeptical about oil.

monograde 4 stroke oil (like ride on mower oil) is an absolute no no in these engines, seen many glaze bores with that crap in under 1hrs riding.. actually seen gearbox's have problems with it.

pulled the motor & box appart yesterday to replace engine internal filter and gaskets and it was all nice and clean with no damage seen by eye i didnt look at the bore tho as im doing the top today with the 125 head ill take some pics its been running the trans fluid for 3 hrs
