Hey all just got my bike, have replaced spark plug, new oil and fresh tank of juice. fuel was stale as bike sat in the back of the workshop for 2 years. Im gonna adjust the valve clearances tomorrow then see if it'll fire. Any further advice would be appreciated

cheers

There is a really good chance that the bikes carby will need a clean. Often if a bike is left for a long time, or even when its ridden regularly small bits of dirt/junk can clog up the jets.

I'd be taking the carby off and taking the bowl off. from there the jets can be cleaned and the rest of the carby can be cleaned while your at it.

Heres some links to some previously made tutorials. All the steps might not be necessary, but definitely clean out the jets:

Also do the valve clearances of the engine
(0.003 & 0.004 for inlet and exhaust valves respectively) using feeler gauges in unit inches:

Good luck mate,

ok ive got the bike running now but as soon as it fires it revs flat out even if the choke is pulled out half way. have i stuffed something up within the carby

sounds like you have the carby slide in 180degrees out..

the large notch in the bottom of the slide goes to the idle screw side of the carby

the needle clip was second from the bottom. might sound like a dum question but wheres the carby slide?

the carb slide is the round thing the needle goes into..

named throttle slide in this pic

ok so the notch itself is the cutout that goes 1/4 the way up yeah?

bike is running, took it for its first ride, idled perfectly. Second ride i left the choke on not realising n flooded it. now it doesn't idle. Ive played with the screw but still no luck

Hi Guys new to this site, just put my first bike together yesterday (cheap chinese 125cc Ducar Motor)all went well and looks good after i tightened/replaced a few minor things and greased bearings etc.
I Filled with BP 98oct Fuel, a Litre of Thumpster Oil Semi Synthetic 20w50 already has a NGK Plug in it. It fired up no worries and i idled it for about 10 minutes then shut down to cool (heat cycle run in tryin) 2nd start up and 3rd and 4th starts and idles fine, Mixture Needle out about 1+3/4 for nice rich run in However if I flip the throttle to get it up and down off idle about 5 - 10 times it dies out like it has no fuel, it pretty much will start up straight away again after a few seconds and throttle pumping then will idle away but as soon as i give it a few minor revs it will splutter stop again?
Any ideas guys? i pulled the plug out and its black getting plenty of fuel which i figure is good for run in?
Any info or abuse is greatly appreciated

Dont worry solved it, im a d******d the aircleaner i had on the bikee was too thick/dense foam, I was unhappy with the tiny fake K&N Style filter that was supplied with the bike, I made a sock or finer filter type setup to go over it and used the wrong foam, Bike is running sweet now, Rod
