Green circle is can sprocket.
Light Blue is camshaft.
Dark Blue is timing chain.

*Make sure the the headstuds are tightened down to the right torque.
*Remove the spark plug so the cam is easier to turn.
*You may need to loosen off the timing chain tensioner.

1. Set the timing on the crankshaft first.
Allign the T mark on the Magneto to the notch on the casing, which is usually at 12' oclock.

2. Pull the timing chaining up through the cylinder into the head.

3. with the Crankshaft timing still aligned, pull the timing chain over the sprocket.
You may need to loosen off the timing chain tensioner.

4. with the timing chain around the sprocket, rotate the sprocket inside the chain until the circle on the cam sprocket aligns with the notch in the head.

5. Timing is complete

hey, how do to tell if the fly wheel it in the right rotation? likes its gonna spark at the right time, casue the flywheels spins twice to every head spin?? need to put my head back on and dont want to put it on and line it up with the wrong stroke,,

also is it beter to set the head one tooth up or one down from the head mark,, when removing was one up, should jst reset to that??
 
as long as the piston is up top of the bore that's top dead center

should set it up mark to mark, and was it a full tooth out or half?
 
Hey nice work,
I went to open up the circular cover thing on the engine to check timing..
Its the one on the left of your diagram..
And I could not figure how to unscrew it...
because it had a little notch and something blocking the notch from moving.
so the only way the notch could move was clockwise which would tighten it...
I dont understand :(
 
above your spark plug(on other side of the engine) is a 10mm bolt....undo that and the cover will come off
 
ok, your cam timing should be fine if the bike runs decent now. how ever the valves will more than likely need doing..
as long as you follow the guides word for word you should have no problems..
 
Mitch I think you're going to find your timing is slightly retarded and impossible to get dead on, it doesn't matter just leave it like that. and yea it's a very simple job all that can go wrong is you stuff up the timing but you won't need to touch it so you'll be fine. Did you figure out how to kickstart the bike yet?
 
yep, I've got the same bike and the timing can only be set to advance or retard, no in between. I dunno if it's a fault with the engine or what.

Yep, I have figured it out I reckon :)
I pretty much get to the hard part and try to push down to make sure it is
Then wait about 2 or 3 second then kick through..
Cause by the time I have waited the hard part has given way :)
Does that sound about right?
