What exactly is a blown engine

Hey all, this is probably a stupid question but im just wondering, what exactly happens when you 'blow' your engine??

basically an engine that has catastrophically failed,

melted pistons or stuffed, blown gaskets and stuffed rings would be an example of a blown engine

depending how bad it stuffed up, the bored may have score marks in it from a melted piston.

dont really know what blows the exhaust out, by looking at it theres seems to be a fireball that come out just before it comes of, thinking it got something to do with that

looks like unburnt fuel exploding in the zorst with black smoke, then lots of burning oil

they pour water into the oil too.

Thanks! We're done testing it (and no it dind't break) and moving to a new project with alternative front suspension to get the weight down a bit further. Pictures will be up in a few days.
