I love wrinkle finish. Looks new but not showy, showy looks cheap imo

Since all my parts are coming from america (quite a bit cheaper) i decided it would be worth my time test assembling the entire bike.

Lets start with the engine (With the crank and trans out so a little imagination is required)

The piece of paper is to write down what im missing/need to know
As because i do not have a manual yet in hard copy i am viewing some snapshots of the pdf's with my camera.

I got a buddy hanging with me ( i think it has more to do with him being scared of the high winds we have )

Thats more like it!

Okay now i pretty much removed everything i had done as i had confirmed its all there *minus one washer for the oil pump drive gear*

Its the little things like that that could hold me up for weeks.

Okay to the covers now, head and bore (old head used for example along with old bore)

The power looks like its going to go out :p hope it doesn't take my computer with it.

Now she is looking a little more like a bike :)

Starting to come together now! Looking good!

You were saying you were looking at new plastics, if you do, would you be interested in selling your old front fender?

if i do then yes :) its nothing special..
Been thinking and i probably won't, or wait until its fully reg'd to do the swap later on when i accumulate the parts.

Milans Engineering in Bayswater. Near Holloway Drive I think.

I could have gone without new bearings and a few lesser shift forks.. but the question i always come back to is spend $50 now or $100 when it does fail incl gaskets and time.

I did not need to replace every trans gear, only a few mainly 3rd gear

Imma be like a kid on christmas when all my parts come in :D

now just a painful wait:boom:

Most certainly, Still have to add 3 things or so to that order.. + the tank and seat that i am sourcing (for a good price)
Then put the front wheel on her and ride her for a while :)

I also took the rear shock off and out and took the spring out today.. Seems to leave a little oil on the shaft however i think thats normal, dampens everything i can throw at it and the rebound seems okay.

Just the little sht that should not be missing makes me wished i had bought a bike complete.. (however could end up in it for the same price in parts) possibly.

Will pull it all down maybe tomorrow.. and i am going to paint it a mat/non reflective enamel black.. then i gotta buy some clear coat.. with my spray gun.

I have a brand new rear shock if you need it mate.

it has been about one week since i ordered.. I emailed the correct person about the additions and extra shipping charges.. emailed them twice.
No response. Very frustrating.
If they do not sort it soon i will get a re-fund and think of another way to complete the project, or save for a while and buy another.

:D PACKAGE JUST ARRIVED!! im about as exited as a 7 year old at christmas :D

1st look... dont look like much:

But then:

It could have been packaged better imo (not in terms of space) but in terms of not potentially damaging shift forks etc.. Was just put in a plastic bag and put next to the large two box's the crank and the bore..

Bore porn.

10756d1414631140-my-2002-wr426-project-bits-photo0045-jpg
Shock linkage rebuild :D and also some swingarm bearings and seals in the rest of the litter
10757d1414631220-my-2002-wr426-project-bits-photo0047-jpg
Fork bushes included with the rebuild kit :D Almost no expense spared in this build (to the best ability of my wallet)

All new shift forks, Crank bearings and (all new transmission bearings and bushes) three new gears, that i am yet to take to a machinist to get cut down along with the rest of the gear set Probably to a 12 degrees or 15 not sure what the web recommends i guess :D still want a tight, not uber grabby gearbox.

Almost doesn't look like 1,700 worth of parts i could have prolly got another bike for that if i tried hard enough :p

Okay 1st things 1st. Crank came inside the larger box and looked like it had punched a hole through its smaller box and has slightly damaged flywheel threads on something (Looks like the only way it could happen is out of the larger box in the factory) No big problem can just run a die over it however not how i like a $300 part.

Seems to be a case of clicking the wrong part number while ordering as because i ordered the more expensive clutch side main shaft..
Photo0048.jpg Funny this one seems to have a copper layer? still same gear
Photo0051.jpg
They are all yet to be back cut...
I must have left cam chain slider off the list somehow.... Other than the wrong shaft and forgetting the cam chain slider it was a good 1st large order for myself and everything else seems to be spot on.

Need to wait a while as per usual, Doing my cert 3 in civil constructions so that will take 4 weeks, i guess for now i can install the new bearings and whatnot and paint the chassis..

I am even replacing one bearing on the other shaft and im going to shim it tight because it has some side to side movement and that is a no no..

Nice work .. I have a 426 as well bought it a year ago with a slippy fifth . I split cases and fixed her box up. Mashed valves on the weekend :( timing chain skipped when I backed of fast while spinning on the spot going up a hill. The auto Timing chain tensioner obviously not so auto. Just assessing the damage at the moment and trying to work out a repair plan.

Have seen the copper layer on used gears.
Isn't the drive shaft locked in position by the clutch basket nut and the driven by the chain sprocket locknut. I'm not sure shimming will give you the desired effect?

Putting a shim inside the actual gearset between the circlip and the gear to tighten it up a little..
Not sure havent gotten down to it may just need a new gear/shaft..
