i picked up another engine today, spotted it on gumtree.
it's a 1P60YMJ/155Z, it has gearbox and electrical issues, but for the price i cant complain.
got talking to the owner about bikes, and riding, and found out the seller is a member here too, el-mato
he's a good bloke, and owns a few mini's too.

this is going to be a fun job, diagnosing and fixing it.
it'll be my first YX style engine pull down.

Thats looks pretty clean, As far as I know it shouldn't be much different from any other engines you've pulled apart. Whats doing, or not doing for that matter?

the pics are a little deceiving, it looks dirtier in the sunlight.
i degreased it and blew it off this afternoon, so it is now a bit cleaner.

the engine came with a couple of Lifan manifolds, a 30mm Mikuni, and another spare parts Mikuni.
apparently it jumps in and out of 3rd gear.
it looks pretty much the same set up as my Lifan 150s, no slinger etc

it may need a new gearbox, or shift drum, but i'll check it all out while it's apart.

ok,
i'm 5 mins into inspecting the engine, clutch cover off,
found some metallic bits in the bottom of it.

back bottom corner of the cover

front bottom corner of the cover

filter screen from the bottom of the case

i wonder where these shavings/chips have come from ????

hmmm ..... ? guessing loose clutch nut possibly ?

no, wasn't that loose,
ha, the old failed rubber in the clutch basket gear trick, basically no rubber to be found anywhere !
i found that the kickstart driven gear, behind the clutch, has a tiny bit of wear too

so now i can start on my parts order list-
1x 6 plate Daytona clutch
1x starter driven gear

possibly relating to the gearbox problem....
i will be splitting the cases just to suss it all out.
the bike it came from was a Pitsterpro, and started having the gearbox problems a couple of hours after running it in.
the owner of the bike just bought another engine and swapped it in.

the daytona clutch works in the yx ??
i havent heard that anywhere hmm..

yeah they do, also in the Lifan 150, and maybe more engines too.
the 155Z clutch is made by Daytona for the DT150

the Stator readings are a little high, too much resistance in the coils.
luckily i have a spare Lifan 150 Stator here, and can just swap the coils off that one, onto the 155 Stator backing plate.

thats pretty good, its a pretty easy fix. so once thats done, what other mods you got planned?

you'll have to wait and see, re- the future mods.....

the 155 stator has no lighting coil either,
so the Lifan one will fix that problem.
i might be able to use the whole Lifan setup so it has adjustable timing ?

can you remember what part needed machining timeeh?

i will probably rewind the old 155 stator too, then i will have another spare.

If you need some top end parts I got a YX160 barrell and head with real low hours you can have real cheap mate.

thanks guys,
looks easy enough, i will compare the 2 side by side and make them look the same with a bit of machining.

and thanks Nick, i'll check out what condition theyre in and let you know if i need them.

cheers, craig

That clutch wouldn't help with the 3rd gear slipping but I don't really think that is why it is slipping out. It would be a good idea to inspect the gears when split, check the dogs etc....
